Rear Fuel Leak

Hi All

I've started the 944 (1987 Lux) for the first time in a few months and there is fuel dripping from the rear wheel area, filler pipe side.
Its dropping off the lower parts of the chasis and I'm wondering if it's a corroded fuel line ?

Does anyone know how much it is to replace fuel lines, and whether the gearbox etc has to be removed.
I read a few posts on the net and they tend to scare me.......!

Any advice would be welcomed, whether its other peoples experiences or technical knowledge or costs.

I'm looking closer on Sunday, as it was dark tonight when I smelt the problem !

Cheers

Andy

I would say yes it is very likely to be the pipes. You could be lucky and find it's just the fuel filter or maybe the union with the fuel filter.

I'm having my pipes replaced next week, due to corrosion, and it is expensive to use the genuine article. The pipes are long and pre formed to bend around the various under chassis parts, they cost around £300 IIRC. The rear torsion bar has to be loosened and lowered to get these pipes in place, and that's what bumps the cost up [] It's a good idea to do the brake lines while it's lowered (they are an extra £50)

Some people have had success by replacing the whole system with flexible nylon pipes which is much cheaper, but not every garage or mechanic recommends this.

Paul is about right (or slightly pessemistic) on parts costs. You have labour to drop the beam and if like mine the mounts have failed another £220 for them. Definitely get the brake lines done at the same time, then Waxoyle the lot.
