Rear-hatch adjustment

Snappy title for a thread, eh? Prompted by about 3/4 of an hour fiddling. I hope that whoever designed the rear catches at Porsche is now working for McDon@lds.. Together with the bloke who usually works with steel and concrete, but on that day decided a nice 80 Lb piece of glass is exactly what a sportscar needs up top. [:'(]

Top spigots: Adjustable for length and angle, and with a nut that works loose to cause a nice rattle. Some spigots have slots. Some you just get extra dirty trying to adjust the length. All leak 100% guaranteed.

Bottom female locators: Two nuts to loosen and adjust position. If you overtighten, the "jaws" don't work. If you don't tighten enough, the b~ggers move, for that comic supermarket car-park "look mummy at that wally thumping on his hatch with hands full of shopping" effect. And that's assuming the completely overcomplicated release mechanism chooses to activate, either with the front trigger, or the key..

And breathe... [:D]

hehe replaced mine a few weeks ago, same issues. ended up loosening the bottom locators a bit, closing the boot to locate them then crawling inside and tightening them with it shut. need to replace the rubbers now which means taking the pins off again []

What a palaver my rear hatch has been.

First I replaced the rubber seal and struts to cure the rattle and bring back the sexy auto-lift when the release button is pressed.
However this then exposed the dodgy worn pins - it's really scary when your hatch auto-lifts when you go over a bump at 30mph!! Makes a great wind brake (and Bugatti Veyron impersonation)!

So I replaced the hatch pins... Grrr... this then exposes how worn the locks get after 20 years - and the hatch still auto-lifts at random. So, it was back to Porsche Reading for some new locks. I then had to readjust all the settings (using the crawl around in the back method) and everything is now working like a charm.

Morale of my story is to get new locks and pins FIRST. Then change the struts and rubber seal. i.e. in the exact opposite order to what I did [8|]
