Rear hatch blues

My 89 944 hatch has never opened with the key since I bought it a year ago,
This wasn't a problem since the remote worked just fine.
I did test the microswitch with a multimeter and its fine, so i put up with it.
I have a feeling its related to the alarm/immobiliser system which I will remove when its not my only transport

Now though if I hit the release button the hatch unlocks but doesn't re lock, you have to hold the button until the motor cycles and locks again.
The motor unit faulty?
Any clues anybody?

Sounds silly but check that the boot barrel is in the locked position as I had a similar problem and found that my barrel was not in the upright position(locked)[&:]

You were bang on scotty, wd40 freed up the jaws and the micoswitch is kaput.
It seems 10ohms across the contacts is just too much as linking red to white operates the linkage nicely.
Thanks
Although will still ditch the imobilliser as it drives me nuts with its stupid little fob and fit somthing less annoying
