Rear hatch leak

My rear screen has parted company with the frame - pretty much along the entire top. Fortunately this mean it doesn't leak too much - unless I point a hose pipe at it (so don't point a hose pipe at it).
I've been recommended some stuff called Dinitrol - which I intend to run along like a bead with some masking tape on the glass.

I used some black silicone sealant on my old Lux, it worked ok but it was nothing more than a temporary bodge (and mine just had gaps, it was still fairly well attached). If I'd have taken the screen off the car and got some in from the top it may have been better, but it still looks a little unsightly where you can see it coming away from the glass. The best job is probably to get a proper glass fitter to sort it out but I'd imagine this might be a little involved and relatively expensive.

you'll need to prepare the surfaces first to remove any dirt grease etc Not sure how you'll do that with the frame in place. You might try a bead of silicon but I doubt it will stick for 10 minutes .the frame is meant to be bedded in mastic when assembled.
Try using a cotton bud and some alcohol to clean first

Hi Colin,

In my opinion the best repair sealant to use would be a product called Sikaflex, widely used in the marine and auto trades.

I have used on many occasions in the plumbing trade, use the white first as it will bond like you know what to a blanket!! (this will even bond when wet) once cured use the black over the top, the reason for this is that the black never quite goes completely hard therfore it will not bond the glass to the frame.

I belive you can obtain from a local auto factor, maybe a local plumbing merchant (I used to purchase it for use with fixing Mermaid shower panels) try Google for info.

Have you tried Ebay? they seem to start around 45 quid although usually require pick up.

Good luck

Andy

Had a short section on mine a few years ago flexed it (be gentle) and worked in some black silicon, seems to have sorted it. For a complete fix see http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/944_hatch_glass_repair/944_hatch_glass_repair2.htm
