Rear hatch lock: Which bit have I broken now?

Hi all
OK as of yestereday, my rear hatch unlocks only from the front remote release. The key below the hatch turns fine, and it turns a small lever inside, which has ceased to be attached to anything. Anyone have a close-up pic of what the mechanism is supposed to look like, so I can work out what broke?

Thanks
Sean

The key doesn't pull anything directly, the lever you can see should actuate a microswitch which then operates the motor as if you had pressed the button inside the car. The spare wheel gets in the way of taking any decent pictures but my best effort is attached.

The key should turn a white plastic cam that is almost hidden in the photo (you can see the edge of it at about 7 o'clock). The should the actuate the microswitch (black plastic thing at 7 o'clock that has been replaced on my 1989 car if 13/92 is a date code..) which should then cycle the release motor. I'd guess that your microswitch has failed or come out of adjustment (if any is possible).

Let us know if you need me to try and get clearer photos..

Hi Tim

Many thanks, I foresee some twiddling with microswitches, but I suspect it's gone U/S. Bit too sudden a failure mode for anything else!

Best regards,
Sean

On earlier cars there was no microswitch, the key pulled a cable, cant remember exactly how and dont have a pic handy,

Thanks everyone for your help: My fix was even simpler. The microswitch linkage had sticktion, so once I wedged my little finger above it and turned the key, it decided to operate just fine. Note for anyone trying this at home:
1) Don't try to free the linkage with the little finger
2) If you must use a little finger, use someone elses. Especially if they have ambitions to join the Yakuza
