Got the rear wiper working on friends 1976 924 yesterday-had got no continuity from motor so took off motor end plate 1st & cleaned commutator-Tip: remove insulating tape from around motor body ,gently prize open the folded ends of the brass brusholders & remove the small but long coiled springs 1at a time ( advisable to do this inside a deepish plastic tub-ask me how I know??) before straightening the 3 steel motor body tags to allow removal of the end plate.Replacement is the reverse -insert the end plate ,secure the 3tabs by bending carefully to hold the end plate, insert the 2 brushes 1ea side with their braided wires arranged appropriately & then the fiddly bit of inserting each spring in turn, compressing it such that with your 3rd?? Hand ,you can fold back over the brass retaining end.
Before connecting the3 wires to the 3 Lucar blades, check you fit them to the correct blades( manual states that incorrect positions can ruin the motor diode).
I then checked the console switch which was faulty so Mike got a replacement swiftly from James at Only 9 in Weaverham. Also checked wiring on this & found it wrong -in fact the switched is marked differently to the current flow diagrams so checked it with continuity tester to get correct connections to match the motor-there is a live feed & switched live plus ground at the switch to the motor because the wiper motor has its own internal "switch"tracks internally similar to the headlamp tilt motor.
Once happy with all connections checked motor operation before mounting it back to glass screen -bingo,it worked ( provided ignition on) & carried on back to correct parked position once switched off.
Next stop is to get the car MOT'd now everything necessary is working??
