Rear Hatch Seals

What's the deal with rear hatch seals these days, the ones that seal around the hatch pins. Are 944 ones NLA, or ridiculously expensive? Are 968 ones available/better/cheaper?

I could be doing with 2 new ones to cure small water ingress. I noticed they were leaking a bit AFTER sorting my large water ingress problem, rear lights not sealed properly by painter. Makes my piss boil that does. Noticed boot carpet soaking a few weeks ago, much worse on NS. Took it out to check hatch pin drains and noticed water pissing in past light units. Anyway, that is sorted, and the carpet is now dry. Just need the hatch pin seals.

Also noticed today NS passenger foot well wet. As a non sunroof car I would assume this got wet when the light units were leaking? Anyway dried it up a fair bit and will keep an eye on it.

Thanks Martin. £52 a side is staggering. I think I paid about £12 each 10 years ago. Does the 968 use the same ones then or are they different?

I need new seals.. just about everywhere...keep meaning to sort it out... I take out the rear seat and boot carpet during winter and vac the water out, last done a couple of weeks ago... still no water in the seat bucket so ok so far. One thing that I have learnt over the years, water ingress doesn't just have to be from a leak...if it gets in to one place, overnight the condensation will build and drip water in other places that don't have a leak, there's a lot of cold glass on a 944 in winter.

Very true Pete. Hard to keep a 30 year old car bone dry during British winters!

they are different i think, i will check

if its made of rubber and sold by Porsche it costs a fortune,

the two little rubbers on the front bumper of a 968 are £72.00, side skirts over £100

the part numbers I gave you fit 924>>944S2, the 968 ones are different but cost more
 
Thanks Martin, you're not wrong. I remember pricing seals for my S2 cab project, IIRC about £400 for the top seal for the front window, bonkers!

Hi guys

can someone confirm for me the part number for the main rear hatch seal, ie the one that fits to the body and sits under the hatch. I have this number
944 512 043 00 but would like to check with those in the know if this is correct?

Hi Martyn.. any idea why that is one digit different to the number I got from the Porsche catalogue which I downloaded last night? Mines an '86' if that makes a difference?

Different part numbers for left and right side?

With regards to them leaking were they taken out when the body work was done that lead to your leaking rear light? They can be fiddly to get to sit correctly and I found using a bit of Vaseline or similar to help then re-seat makes life easier. If they're not seated 100% it may explain your leak.

Not left vs right...the seal is one piece that runs around the whole hatch joining above the lock...

My mistake - I lost half the thread between Scams request for the 'the ones that seal around the hatch pins' and the part number for the hatch seal [:D]
 
Easy done! I replaced the main hatch seal a few years ago, was IIRC about £50 odd from OPC. I don't think it was removed when the light clusters were out. It still has the white sticky marks it had previously in the same places, the stuff that oozes out of it. I will check how it is seated at some point if the rain ever stops..........

The last digit change just means it’s been updated

And again no petroleum based products on rubber, it will go soft and squashy and then swell and fall apart

just read the threads where PAS fluid has leaked on the anti roll bar bushes
I did read one where the fella banged on about oil on his bushes then promptly refitted his new ones with copper slip, oh well horse and water and all that,

loads of dash shine is fine as that has plasticisers in it
