Rear hatch squeak fixed.......

This had been a niggling problem for longer than I can remember, but since there were no leaks and it was pretty intermittent, I hadn't got round to sorting it. I knew the hatch pins would need adjusting/replacing, because as you can see, the hatch rubber had worn right through the pait to primer due to the amount of play.

Pins seized of course, but freed with liberal WD40 several times and leave for an hour. You could feel the slack that needed to be taken up by pressing down on the hatch. Turned out to be about 4mm on the offside and a couple of mm on the nearside. Now shuts and opens much easier. I was going to touch in the paint and then put a cover of clear paint protection film, but then I had a better idea which was much simpler - you may not be surprised :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Am battling with just such a squeak at the moment, perhaps 3M can come to my rescue too ! On a side note the rubber inserts where the pins go in (as shown on Richards photo) look pretty worn out on my car, does anyone know if they are still available from the OPC ? Might that be contributing to my own squeak ?

Porscheshop has the rubber insert/seals. http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/porsche_944_body_seals.html

I think they're a total pig to fit though. I dismantled my latches at christmas as one had seized and found the metal mounting plate that sits underneath the rubber had completely rotted. Fabbed up a new one but couldn't get that rubber back in for love nor money. It ended up totally trashed and in a couple of pieces. It's now back in, albeit in a severely trimmed back/glued together form.

yeh they're a pita, i had a corroded plate too but there was enough of it left to just wirebrush, i was recommended to use silicon grease to lube the seals when refitting.

They are a tight fit but if you drop them in hot water for a few mintes they become very flexible and much easier to manipulate into position. Replaced mine a few years ago and they were under a tenner each from the OPC (though the price could have changed by now)

The rubbers are easy to get in if you coat them in washing up liquid first then they slide right in. I got mine for around £14 each but I have seen them cheaper now, also replaced the hatch pin receivers which were around £42 for the pair delivered from my local OPC (Newcastle) and once I had adjusted them to match the pins the hatch opens much more smoothly and shuts in a more positive way.

As usual , get the seals from the OPC as they are £13, Porscheshop are £16 plus VAT! I got 3 pairs from Porsche and they were all split straight from the packet, the replacements from them were also all trashed. Great quality!!! Don't use Farit Liquid to put them in, it is full of salt!
