Rear Hatch Struts

Hi chaps

I have recently replaced the bonnet struts and now want to replace the ones for the rear hatch.
I would like the hatch to open 'on its own' after operating the hatch release button,
the question is;
Does anyone know if there is any difference using the struts for a hatch with a bridge spoiler? or is the rubber spoiler heavier anyway?

Cheers
Andy

If you dont buy these from an OPC, then remember that theyre different on each side. Fitting incorrect combinations can cause all sorts of problems; from the indicators not working to the car setting on fire.

Neither of my 44s have done this (open without help) even with new struts. I did buy iffy ones from ebay and yes they did mess up the rear screen and the alarm. Buy the right ones!
Now it may have been that the newstruts were the incorrect spec and I didn't change the hatch seal (which can help the hatch open) but I did play with the hatch pin adjustment alot abut to no avail.
I'm also sure there is a paragraph in the handbook effectively saying the hatch may not spring open on its own.
I suppose all I am trying to say in a longwinded way is that you may change everything you should and it still doesn't open on its own.
But it would be nice!

i have seen earlier about the problems that fitting incorect struts for the hatch can cause but what problems when it comes to the alarm has anyone come across

Mine does, but not in cold weather. It is very cool when it works though. [8D]

It's actually the boot light (and heated rear window) that can be upset by non-original spec struts. The circuit utilises the struts and not all aftermarket ones have the required contacts. I don't imagine Bert will sell those however, or at least he will be aware of the issue and will be able to tell you / offer a set that do work with the electrics.

It causes all manner of different problems depending which combination of left/right struts are used. Indicator circuit fusing is very common.
