Rear hatch

Just thought i'd share my experiences of fiddling with my hatch recently. As part of my ongoing pro-active maintenance and part replacement programme I recently replaced the hatch latchtes as my old ones were looking pretty worn. I popped along to my OPC and bought them and installed them the following weekend. During installation I noticed that when you locate the latches on the two studs there is alot of movement both left and right and fore and aft so I just set them by eye to where I thought the previous latches were. I found that the hatch started to rattle and squeak constantly so it was clear i'd done something wrong.

Last weekend I had a closer look and noticed that the pins were way off alignment with the latch holes such that when the hatch was closed it would have been the case that the threaded part of the pins would have been right up against the latches. I adjusted the latches to center them against the pins and wow - what a difference. The hatch as been rattle free - sure it squeaks a little on certain surfaces but nothing that you'd notice unless you were listening for it.

So just thought i'd post my experiences so you guys can take a look at the alignmen of your pins to the latches.

Next job - replace the pins themselves.
