Rear lower suspension arms

Has anyone had their rear lower suspension arms replaced? I've been told mine need to be done after I asked OPC to trace a rattle (jeez - expensive rattle). I'm sure they're right about the arms (my back end does weave slightly [;)] over fast crests) but I'm not convinced it's the source of the 'rattle'.

I'd be very surprised, and probably in need of clean underwear if any part of my suspension "rattled".

What is the age and mileage of your car and how much?

I would of thought that your heat shield fixings were the most likely suspect.

I thought it may be the heat shields but they checked & all was well. The car is a 2000 ym with 38k on the clock - full OPC history and is generally in rude health (apart from its suspension that is).

I'm calling it a rattle but it's louder than that - it's more like the base of the hood banging up and down on it's rubber stops. I don't mind having the suspension work done but if it's for no reason then I'll be somewhat miffed. Not sure if the warranty I have will cover the cost - need to investigate.

I would expect to be able to see some physical evidence as something must be moving around to produce the sort of symptoms you describe.

One thing for sure is that at an OPC it will cost at least an arm!

Managed to get round to speaking to a technician at OPC Hatfield who shed some light on things. What has actually gone are the suspension bushes - which is as I'd expect as normal wear/tear on suspension parts. However, Porsche being Porsche, the bushes are integral parts of the suspension arms and accordingly the whole arm has to be replaced. (I seem to remember reading an article in 911 and Porsche world about the self same problem on 993 911's - some enterprising independant has managed to find a way of replacing the bushes instead of the whole arm). Relating the arm replacement to the rattle seems to have been a red-herring...
