Rear Main oil seal

After recently purchasing an 03 3.2 S Tiptronic, my warrantee runs out very soon with the dealer i bought it from. I therefore took it to Porsche for a pre warrantee check and they found that the rear main oil seal has a leak, the near side cam cover has an oil leak and there is a problem with a solenoid? To put it all right will cost the best part of £1400 before they will apply a warrantee. Are these major problems and are they common. I am currently shopping around for a better price but they then said that because they have to remove the tiptronic gear box if there is a problem in the future the warrantee may not cover it if the OPC did not do the work. Feel like i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Would really value some opions on this

Cheers

Aren't any of the above fixable under your existing warranty? And if so will they not automatically be covered for 12 months from date of work [&o]

What sort of a warranty did the dealer give you? If you bought it from a dealer and their warranty is running out soon then surely their warranty will cover all this?

Yes he will cover these but not at an OPC. However a previous thread spoke of a trustworthy garage which i have approached in case things get difficult. I was still wondering about the commoness of these problems.

Thanks

RMS about 1 in 4 cars. Cam cover leaks are also very common.

What isn't too common is that either leak is bad enough to worry about.

But I assume that you are going for the Porsche extended warranty, which means that our opinions count for nothing. I think it's reasonable for them to want the car to be A1 before it gets a warranty.

The fact that the problems are down to Porsche in the first place is the bitterest pill! [&:]
JCB..

Thanks. Yes I was considering a porsche extended warrantee. I have quickly learnt a lot from this forum and the whitty/informative banter that seems to occur so i do value your opinons but you are correct. Porsche dont care what anyone elses opinion is but their own it seems. The warrantee should cover the job anyway but if i get any probs i know where to ask the questions!!

I think we all get obsessed with these oil leaks. Minor leaks are not an issue IMO. If you have to top the oil up say once month that I don't think they are worth worrying about (none of us used to worry about topping up the oil on any sort of car 10 years ago). The OPCs are there to make money. It's good business for them to get you to pay for loads of stuff and then pay for a warranty. If you're non-porsche warranty is about to run out I would expect that you will have the chance to re-new it. That's what I would do. To me a warranty is there to cover the unexpected nasty surprises. I believe the porsche version is very good but as you have seen it costs far more than the price of purchasing their piece of paper each year. You'll probably find that the leaky RMS can be done when you get the ATF done (if you've still got the car at 96,000 miles!) [:)]
