Rear parking sensors

Help please. Rear parking sensors appear to have packed up / stopped bleeping. How do I check if the sensor has failed or it's a fuse? Checked the fuse tray and can't find any fuse labelled "parking sensor". Is there a fuse, am I looking in the right place?

I have a late 2003 996 cabriolet (facelift).

Thanks
Shahid

If the sensor packs it up, then the system beeps continuously in a lower tone than normal (when its in reverse). So it sounds like yours isn't the sensor. Greg

Mine packed up just because they were dirty! Hadn't worked for a week or so but fine after hosing off 3 weeks worth of winter country road grime. Dave Jones

Are the reversing lights working? It could be the reversing light switch that is the problem, as that is where the parking sensor module gets it's signal.

Manual or Tiptronic? Either way, it is 99% likely to be the reversing light switch itself. On a manual it is a separate switch on the gearbox casing, and on a tip it is part of the switch unit on the bottom of the gear selector.

Yes, you have to take the whole selector mechanism off to get to the switch. I believe that you can buy the multi-function switch (which contains the reversing light switch) separately.
