Rear Parking Sensors

Hi Everyone,

I would like to get rear parking sensors fitted to my 911 996 registered in 2000. Has anyone had this done? and could anyone recommend a product that doesn't spoil the look of the car?

Many Thanks

John

I have fitted aftermarket sensors on a number of other cars (not the Porsche, but the process is exactly the same). It is a (relatively) easy job!

Most kits come with the correct hole cutters. Remove the bumper (plenty of YouTube videos to achieve this). Measure out where you want the sensors (checking there is enough clearance behind the bumper where you are thinking of fitting them. Drill the holes and mount the sensors, feeding the wires into the passenger compartment through existing grommet. Inside the car, remove the rear seat base and fit the sensor's beeper unit there, connect it into the reversing lights power in the loom (Black with Blue stripe), some help on where to find it here: http://www.911uk.com/view...ece4ae259cf0494b45e8c7

Thanks Boggie, not sure I am confident enough to do this myself but glad it can be done relatively easily

I requested some to be retrofitted to my 2001 996.2 when I bought it from 911Virgin about 4 years ago. They had Karl from http://www.incarelectrics.co.uk/ install a colour coded set of cobra parkmaster sensors. I think it was these: Original Equipment Style Rear Parking Sensors --- In Car Electrics

I don't have a pic of mine to hand, but they're the modern flush fitting style similar to this stock image I found:

Alternatively, if you have a modern double din headunit, then they often have inputs for front & rear facing cameras. If you look on youtube you'll find links to walk you through the steps to install one. If you're not confident to DIY, then consider upgrading the stereo & having a reverse camera fitted at the same time.
