Rear Rim change from 9" to 8 1/2"

I have read with interest 964 drivers thread regarding tyres and wheels but I would like to no if by down sizing from 9" to 81/2 rims on the rear will it affect the cars handling bearing in mind that the tyre size will remain the same. The offset is not an issue

Thanks

I am not sure you will get an answer to this. 8.5" rears are not a recommended size on the 993 rear wheels and if you do fit them you will be going against factory recommendations. All tyre manufacturers quote a minimum and maximum rim size for any size of tyre made so that would be a start point. Typically reducing the rim size makes the sidewalls slightly less stiff but how this would effect handling in the real world I wouldn't know.

Hi,

No not on the wrong track whatsoever[:)] It just seems that boxster drivers are all upgrading there wheels to 18" don't no why because it does screw up the handling, anyway boxster drivers.......blah blah blah..[;)][;)] and obviously there are some good 17" wheels and tyres around especially on ebay, I was just considering a cheap change of wheel with good tyres at very low cost, but you are quite right in what you say about tyre demands per car type etc so I think I will leave well alone until for now.

Regards
