Rear Script Decal Fitting Help :)

I have finally cleaned the 944 after it looked as if it came from a set in a Saharan movie with all of the dust all over it.

Now has come the fun part of fitting the rear decal! Before measuring twice (or three times in my case) and fitting it once are there any other pointers you helpful folk may give? Is water a handy thing to use or am I best off putting the decal on dry? I have not bothered to wax that part of the car just yet :).

A spray bottle with water and a couple of drops of fairy liquid will help you to move the decal around a bit once placed.

I folded mine in half, marked a centre-line on the car and did one side and then the other - it was easier than I thought it would be.

Use car shampoo mixed with water instead of Fairy Liquid (other brands are available [:D]) as it is loaded with salt.

OEM Porsche decal comes in two halves. I positioned mine first on the car with several pieces of masking tape for reference and then applied without any water/lube due not wanting any of the individual letters moving once in place. If they move around independently it will look like a 3 year olds attempt of putting magnetic letters onto your fridge. For solid decals I agree some water/lube would be beneficial for applying, adjusting and getting rid of air bubbles, just not for the rear script.

Good advice. I need to re-do mine at some point too, as one of the previous owners "repaired" a dink in the back with a handful of wob and actually went over the decal. Would've been better if he'd removed it first. []

Some great advice here. I went with an OEM decal in the end, which as Steve has said comes in two halves. The above should keep me busy over the weekend.

A long bump I admit but I figured it would be best to conclude this thread.

I went with Steve's method in the end.

Suffice to say it has done the job very well. I did measure many times however before going for it!
