Rear Seat Belts - How easy to obtain and fit?

Does anybody havea any experience of obtaining nd fitting 3 point seat belts to the rear of a coupe?

As far as I can see the mounting points for the buckle recceivers are in place but no signs of any belts - in a 1985 car have these been taken out, deleted as an option or never been fitted?

Hi, see my website in the footer of this message and follow the "upgrades" links on the left under "3.2 Carrera". I fitted 3-point belts to my '85 3.2 Carrera.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Malcolm

hi acwats,
you can fit them in your car in half a day and have them as good as factory fitted. you would not of had them fitted by the factory as if you had you would have a couple of cuts in the rear parcel shelf.

1, remove teh rear parcel shelf ( 2 screws behind the seats and two more that hold the clips/straps for the rear seat back rests.
2, once you have removed this there will be some thick sound padding, on the front of each corner you will be able to see where you need to pull/ cut out some of it in order to fit the seat belt rolls. there should be 2 bolt holes already in the body work that you screw the belt body to.

3, you then need to mark thr rear parcel shelf each side for the belts to come through. what you want to get is a couple of guides. best thing to use is, where the front seat belts come up and out of the panel they come through a plastic guide about 3.5inc longx 1ich wide, i'm sure you know what i mean.
once you have these, mark the parcel shelf a couple of incs down from the top and a couple incs in and cut to the shape of the guides, screw them in useing small self tapper (black better).
pass the belts through and replace shelf, once you make sure they don't snag on any thing.
finish of by fitting the buckle and the side mount.

i did this to mine 9 years ago and its what you would get if factory fitted. except the rear guides, which are similar seem impossibe to get. when i did mine i got the belts secound hand, can't remember where a long time ago (but are porsche) and charles ivey for the guides, it was iveys that told me to use these guides as that is what there would use.
just looked at my photos but don't have any of my rear belts fitted. if you can wait untill weekend i can take some and post them up.

doing it this way is harder then the way on the web site of the other post made by malcolm, but it is very neat and you don't spoil the top of the parcel shelf.

I'm doing this at present. I don't have pre-drilled holes/mounts so I had to buy a second hand shelf with guides fitted, and am reversing the process. Drilling holes this friday hopefully, need a ramp to do it. I have made up two steel plates and will weld in captive nuts.

Can mark positions of guides for you on atemplate which will help. PM me your home address.

Any good tips wanted as I am cutting on Friday!!

Thanks for the offers and advice.

I am in the market for a 85/86 Carrera and one I saw did not have the seat belts. Hopefully I can do a deal and then I will probably follow up some of the offers made.

Thanks again

Andrew

Just seen some for sale on ebay at :-

They were a bit pricey, I only paid about £45 for a set from Lodge Sport who were breaking a 964. They fitted a treat once I source the correct apatures to fit into the shelf.
Its worth a phone around the breakers such as Porsch-a-Part, Lodge Sport, PH Sportscars, Prestige Salvage and Douglas Valley to name but a few. It took me only a couple of calls to find a set, might be worth buying the rear shelf aswell if it matches colour wise. Be aware though, the 964 shelf is deeper and I'm not sure if it would fit a 3.2

I have the part numbers for the correct belt appatures (only about £5 ea from Merlins) if anybody is interested, finding these was the hardest part of the job!!

HTH,
