Rear seat deletion

given the new laws introduced regarding children and booster seats etc, the rear seats now appear to be somewhat redundant.

Has anyone done this exercise ? If so, how did you go about getting/ making the carpet to cover the exposed bits ?

I got a tatty old seat base from somewhere - Southbound or Porschapart I think. I also got some matching lightweight carpet type material from Southbound and covered it. I'm no upholsterer so it could be a more professional job, but it looks quite good and it provides soundproofing for the gearbox noise.

The foam part isn't heavy hence going this route with mine, but the other option is to build something like the 968CS shelf. I understand that it weighs as much as the seat backrest though - another area where the CS is pseuso lightweight rather than truly lightweight.

Like Fen says the base weighs practically nothing. What I did was to unbolt the seat back which is fairly heavy and remove all the belt hardware. I was nervous about the MoT but it sailed through.........after failing on the handbrake which required new shows and disks! OK it might look strange but it is still usefull and if you drive the car around with the base removed you soon realise how that 2lb of foam does a massive job reducing the noise from the trans and exhaust.

That is another option - I went to the hassle I did as I was selling my seats as a set, so the original base was gone.

Guys

thanks for the suggestions. I've e-mailed southbound about a price for some carpet. I just felt it would look a lot better without the seat bases in, but with a neat piece of carpet in a sort of Club Sport/ RS type fashion !

It's way noisy without the foam, and the floor under the seats has load of lumps and bumps and bolts sticking out.

Try + get yourself a 968 Club Sport rear carpet.. Although they are as rare as rocking horse poo....[8|][8|][8|]

I have a similar issue in transporting my dog(black lab) who hates sitting in the back. And I cant really make the girlfriend sit in the back so the dog can have the front seat [8|]. Has anyone else got round this problem?

I fitted a 968 Club Sport rear shelf into my 944 Turbo - Try PH Sportscars at Shardlow near Derby/ Junction 24 of M1/ Donington Park/ East Midlands Airport as they occassionally have such things in.
