Rear seat latch in 1987 Targa

I am unable to lower one of my rear seats in my 1987 Targa.[]

On one side, the small red knob is missing that should be attached to the latch at the base of the seat, near the centre line of the car.

After my last servce the garage had lowered both the seats (to repair the heated rear windscreen) and I was going to leave them lowered. However, my wife put them back up one day, not knowing my intentions! Doh!

Anyone know how I can pull the latch out to lower the seat without the knob?

Thanks in adavance!

tricky one to explain Simon ,I had a similar problem although I had the red knob. I moved the back of the seat into a half way position (not as far back or as far forward as it will now go) then I used a small screw driver to press the plunger fully in then let it spring back out , after a few goes it came out far enough to expose a couple of the threads.I then prised the plunger out using a small flat bladed screw driver while pulling the back of the seat just enough to put some pressure on the plunger to stop it springing back in. The back should release and I would suggest putting a nut on the thread in the mean time untill you can get a new knob.

Hope this makes some sense:rolleyes:

Ray,

Thanks for the tips! It was exactly how you explained. I've now got a locking nut on the thread as you suggested.

Cheers,
