Try as a I have, in the PET catalogue and the workshop manual, I can't find a part number for the flat black aluminium trim that sits on the body and under the window rubber seal a tad. It's the black trim piece that lays flat/horiz then tapers off towards the rear. Doesn't seem to appear as a visible part - the seals (internal/external) and ally seal trims/corners do but that's it, not the external piece.
Another question is has anyone removed/replaced this with the glass and seals in place - easy job?
Number is 911 543 195 502 for the left and 911 543 196 502 for the right and its not cheap for what it is, but I replaced both of my ones as the paint started to bubble. Repainting didn't work for me as the alloy is very soft and gets eaten away with corrosion and looks a mess after.
The side windows will need to come out to replace the alloy strips, so depending on your window removing experience it might be worth a pro doing it as its not getting the window out that is the issue, but refitting the rubber retainer strip to the rubber after that is fiddly .
Best trick i found here was to lub all the rubber and retaining strip with WD40 and it will fit easly , if not its a load of agro.
The actual alloy strip you want to replace is retained by 3 to 4 screws to the car body with theirs heads under the window rubber which is why the window has to come out.
This is great Ian - thanks. I had no idea it was that part.. I thought it was an internal element inside of the glass from the way the diagram stacks the order.
I had rubbed down with wet and dry and made the mistake of trying Hammerite one-coat satin black to my flippin cost - it started to peel other areas of the trim paint. Have now rubbed the whole lot down from the start again, binned the Hammerite (which never seemed to harden anyway), a few coats of primer so far and will finish off with other 'normal' stain black spray tomorrow. Fingers crossed might be ok. However, I'll check the part cost and availability as I suspect anything I do will be just be an interim fix until a few months time.
