Rear Speaker Upgrade - S2 Cab

I've got the 'Hi-fi Sound System' option on my car (3 speakers per door and 2 in the rear) - whilst the sound is nice and clear it is seriously lacking depth and I think the culprits are the 2 rear speakers. I've a quick look an they appear to be an easy swap out. Someone has mentioned to me that Seat / VW / Audi fitment is perfect however I'm unsure of what size - does anyone know the correct size / spec I need and can recommend any particular make & model of replacements?

Cheers,
Chris.

ps. I'm not looking shake the neighbours windows with mega bass (I'll leave that to the max power crew!) - just want a bit more mid / bass to provide a rounder sound.....

The SEAT/VW etc. ones that fit are 6x4 inch. You should check first that you don't have a 6" round speaker as part of the hi-fi (ha!) pack. I know my cab (which had standard speakers) had 6x4 rears, but it also had a mount for a 6" round speaker. I haven't had the rear quarter panel off my coupe which does have the amusingly named hi-fi pack. The cab rear quarter panel comes off really easily for you to check.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]On the cab you can fit really good front speakers because they have the quarterlight, therefore you do not need to restrict the depth of a speaker in the front of the door card like the coupe needs (to clear the window when it is lowered). You might find that replacing the paper-coned rears (and fronts if you haven't already) and a pair of bass drivers in the front of the doors, possibly with a separate amp to drive them/all channels) answers your need quite effectively and neatly.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I have the same "premium" speaker system in the Coupe and bass response is mince.

I know rear speaker removal is a pain in the coupe (no idea about the cab) and have therefore been musing over a powered sub. Not really sure if this would provide a better option or not (?)

There are some pretty compact units HERE (the smaller ones at the bottom of the page!) which may even squeeze under a seat (?).

I have the Pioneer TS-WX22A in the hearse where it makes a useful difference, and fits out of sight in the storage tray above the battery where the optional BM one goes. [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]edited as there were multiple Piioneer models in the list and I hadn't specified [8|][FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I fitted a set of 6*9's in the boot of my 84, 944. If you can get them in they sound good.
Get 2-way ones though as 3-ways are rubbish. If you can only get 3-way's cut one of the wires going to the smallist tweeter to make them 2-way.
You will get a nice punch then.
A small 8" tube is also a good option as they are'nt very big but give good midrange depth without looking like a power head!

This is one upgrade I have tried not to even think about to date [:(]... but i will certainly be interested in other's '10 speaker' experiences.

I do actually have a reasonable alpine head unit and amp, and a set of diamond audio hex500 components (very shallow fit) from my last car. Just not sure how best to proceed; should I replace the front set up with quality 2 way components, what to put in the back, where to mount the amp...blah blah

there's some handy information here http://www.connactivity.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faqst.html
