Rear speakers just how hard?

Hi guys,

I am really looking at getting my rear speakers changed at some point to match the ones i've got in the front and replace the knackered rear ones.
But just how hard are they to change with removing the rear window?
Just been quoted £131 to fit them if I buy them.

Cheers
Will

Pop the rear windows out. If your nervous about it then pop down to your local independent body shop and ask them to do it. If you bung some one a tenner they will pop them out for you. Drive home fit the speakers and go back and get them put back in. Job done easy!!!!!

Getting the windows out is easy. Getting them back in requires a little more dexterity, but it isnt difficult. Remember to remove the aluminium trim from the window rubber - its a key which holds the rubber in place.

cool think next month I shall look at buying some new speakers then and dare to attempt them! I guess be easier as well if I have someone who can catch the glass as well.

I'm going to buck the trend here. I've done numerous sets without removing windows and no ill effects to door cards. The door card comes away easily enough to allow access and then when done just use a little screwdriver to help you slot the card back under the rubber and slide it back into situ.

How do you remove the aluminium trim? As reading guide none mention this? or ones that I can find?

I have thought about this but chances are I will likely to tear one of the cards as one does have a small tear in the holes that are drilled into it for the speaker unfortunately :(

Im confused as to why anyone would remove the rear windows to fit speakers [&:]

Its not necessary, well it certainly hasn't been on either of mine.

It's because the trim sits under the window rubber, some times it is tucked round the metal lip on the body making it difficult to remove the panel.

Necessary to do it properly.

I swapped the rear speakers in my '89 Lux with the windows in place, and found it easy enough (with care) to fit the card edge material under the seal using my finger-tips and a plastic spatula.
The speaker holes in my car are 6.5" round, but with adapter plates fitted at the factory to take 6x4" ellipticals. I removed the adapter plates, then made up new adapters (cut up an old number plate!) to fit 6.5" sub-woofers. These have BIG magnets, but I found that there is plenty of depth available for them. Sub-woofers in the back add a lot of depth to the sound IMHO, but you have to seal them well in the panel - any air gaps round them will drastically reduce audio performance. I found it to be an easy, albeit time-consuming, job. But having done that, I find I can get all the music I need from that beautiful 2.7 exhaust sound.

It wasn't necessary for me. Attached is a photo of the original speakers prior to me removing them and screwing in the replacements.

No reason whatsoever to remove the rear windows. Unless my 944 is different somehow [&:]

Agreed I didn't take the windows out to replace speaker and door card
Just used some plastic knifes to put the leather under the rubber stripes
It took my half hour to do one card and speaker.
