Rear Speakers?

Hi,

Looking for some advice with regard to rear speakers for my 1978 SC - I bought a set of 4" x 6" JBL P6452s (which fit the 911 SC according to the JBL website) but the guy who fitted my new stereo and front speakers no problem has called me to say he cannot see where the rear speakers are supposed to be fitted and was querying if the car ever had rear speakers in the first place. Can anyone tell me if all SCs had rear speakers?

My interior had has been reapolstered which may have covered the area where the original rear speakers were?

Thanks for your help,

Tom

Some cars did have rear speakers (they were an option at the time) these cars have a different raised 'speaker' shelf which provides a void under which 6x4" speakers were mounted. The standard shelf has a small lip on the leading edge and often brackets for attaching luggage straps.

They do come up for sale on ebay from time to time, but be aware that targas and coupes shelves are NOT the same!

I have a 77 and mine also does not have rear speakers, its just a shelf secured by 2 bolts. When i purchased it someone had fitted aftermarket? or original option? speakers, theses wre pioneer horrible square boxes in each corner.

Wouldnt take much to build a shelf wich is raised, this is something i am going to do just as a shelf though. but if im honest with you as i know alot about car audio installation, with the air space inside a 911 and a good set of components up front there is no need for rear speakers. I built pods at the front to angle the sound more direct into the car. More modern and sound great. Will be building a custom sub enclosure to, only with and 8" sub, dont want lots of base just crystal clear loud music. I have more info on building these pods for the speakers if you are interested.
