Rear spoiler stuck in up position !

Hi all

The rear spoiler on my 993 C2 has stopped in the up position. When I checked the mechanism there appears to be a rogue drive cable loose - not sure if this is the cause. Fuse seems fine. Any help appreciated.

I've attached a couple of pics.

Thanks,

Ravi

Ravi,

It looks like the drive cable has destroyed itself!! The square drive at the end of the cable is what is supposed to turn the spoiler mechanism but it looks like the cable has managed to wind itself out of it's casing. From a quick look at PET it seems like you have to buy the whole "transmission" as they call it - Part no. 964.624.121.00.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Thanks for the advice. I suspected it would be something like that [].

Do you know if this part is something I need to order through the OPC and if this is a DIY or dealer/independent job ?

Ravi

Ravi,

I'm pretty sure it will be an OPC part only - it's a bit special to be a generic part. I suspect it's not too tricky to fit although getting it adjusted with the up/down microswitches might prove a bit of a challenge!! I've not had any personal experience of fiddling with the spoiler mechanism although I suspect others here may well have.

I think I'd be tempted to have a go - give me a shout over one weekend when you've got the bits and I'll happily have a go with you. Getting someone else to do it always remains an option if we don't succeed!!!

Regards

Dave

Where do you live Ravi? If you're anywhere near Northampton I could lend a hand if required. You may be able to repair the cable - it's difficult to see from the pictures. If you can get it to spin the cable inside without chewing up the interior of the sheath then there may be some hope!

If you want a replacement drive gearbox, I'm fairly sure Tony Wright at http://www.wrightune.co.uk (01491-826911) has one in stock that I refurbished a long while ago. Tell him I pointed you in his direction, and that it is somewhere on the shelves upstairs - he'll know what I mean!

Thanks all for the useful info & offers of help.

I will have a closer look when I have some spare time over the next few days and decide which way to go.

Dave & Sid - I live in Milton Keynes and may take you up on the offers of help !

Richard - If I indeed need a new drive gearbox, I'll know where to look.

Will post again with progress.

Thanks again,

Ravi
