Rear Spoiler stupid question

Guest

New member
I've got a 2001 boxster S. Ordered a BirdAutomotive bike rack from the US, and the guy seemed to think all boxster rear spoilers pop-up at speed.

I'd read somewhere that the spoiler pop-up was an optional extra and that it worked on a button press. Can't see any button in mine, and don't have the owners manual.

So.... Does it pop-up at speed? Does it do it on all UK boxsters? or is it an optional extra on a switch?

Cheers.

yes,the spoiler will automatically rise at speeds of over 70mph and it will go down once you go below 50mph.

there is a button/lever in your footwell that will raise your spoiler...this is so you can clean the spoiler.

Not an optional extra. It's a safety feature! If the spoiler does NOT go up then there is a warning light - this is to warn you not to use the car to it's full potential.

The only ones that don't pop up are the ones that have the optional fixed spoiler (Aeorokit one) or wing (Aerokit two) which replace the pop-up spoiler.

The spoiler goes up at 75mph, and down at 50.

The switch to raise or lower it manually is in the drivers footwell - in the fusebox cover.

Suggest you order a drivers manual from Porsche - it's not expensive and there are a lot of useful things in there. [;)]

Welcome to the forum [:)]

Edit - beaten to it again [;)]

Thanks guys that's answered my question very precisely :) . I'll have a look in the footwell tonight.

Dealer is sorting out the manual luckly.

Thanks again.

the button press on the centre console is on 987s (2005 onwards); this (A) is what you will be looking for in yours...

thats great... (from memory) his 2001 986 will look much the same as that

Found it, does exactly as suggested. Mystery solved.

Bike rack gets delivered next week, was about $600 all in shipped from US. Brackets bolt under the car and require no cutting or anything scary. When rack not fitted not noticable. See http://www.birdautomotive.com/Bike%20Rack%20Boxster.htm if interested. One thing you need to know, the boot doesn't really open as suggested, since the straps go over the top, not under the boot lid, in order to avoid the spoiler fouling the straps.

Got a another problem now. The becker CD changer won't load the disks and won't eject the cart, just makes a noice and doesn't eject it. Any ideas?

Cheers

P.s. Pics to come.

i had the same problem and ended up getting frustrated with the unit and dismantaled it with the aid of a large screw driver and a hammer..

needless to say i then needed a new one [:-].

i dare say there is a easy (and cheaper) fix but, i didn't find it.
