Rear spoiler

Anybody know anything of the rear spoiler in the image? I quite like it and have been thinking about ditching the original for a while now. I'm not too keen on the OE bridge spoiler but I think this looks reasonably original yet quite up-to-date at the same time?

I think the bridge spoiler looks great - just not in body colour (maybe not a problem for yours though)[;)]. That pic looks like a bit of a bodge to be honest - i bet it's pretty rough close up. Bridge spoiler cars look much more modern to me. You do lose the option of fitting one of Rock's cunning stickers though [:D]

The OE bridge spoiler is expensive as you really need the whole hatch - be prepared to pay £400 or more. The side trims are very prone to snapping off & cost £140 each.

Peter Empson's got one modelled on the 968 Turbo spoiler I believe (from Essential Styling ?) - that's another option to consider

Here's a pic of mine - you can see the side trims are completely different. The hatch glass also has different mounting holes

I can only assume the rear valance has some aero properties - otherwise it wouldn't be there. Removing it would probably be a fairly significant job - it will bolt through the boot floor. You'd probably need to get plates welded over the holes & then sprayed.

Save your money for the things that break - or make you go faster [:D]

Porsche claimed the valance helped with cooling the gearbox (there may have been downforce claims too, but I can't recall).
Less charitable people claim it's just there to hide the spare wheel well [:D]

If I had one fitted from the factory I don't think I'd remove it, but as it's quite heavy and seemingly not terribly efficient I'm unsure what I'm going to do on my car. I fancy a true diffuser but going that route means running a side exit exhaust and possibly cutting the spare wheel well, which is a bit much for the time being. Sorry gone off topic again...

I've always quite like the full Le Mans style spoiler, not the best picture below but shows what I mean. Subtle it is not [:D]

Diffuser? - Have you been spending too much time on Rennlist? [;)]

Lol! Yes it does seem to be a hot topic there at the moment.
Thing is I'm not sure which way to go on my car, I like the look of the toast rack that's there (even if it is damaged from being dragged out of the gravel) but it must add some drag and a little weight. I may just remove it for the time being as on a lowered car it doesn't look to unsightly nude [:)]

Rear diffusers from spoilers what have you been drinking. lol
I like the LeMans one too in a 'Racer' looking way.

You still in Aussie party mode Peter? How'd we go from bodgy rear spoilers to 'diffusers'?? [:D]
I actually like the LeMans rear spoiler too. Got the Bridge one, plus the adj 968 one. Hey I even like the old stock one from some angles. It helps to take away from the 'Bubble Hatch' look with the upward angle. IMHO of course.
Ot, sorry I didn't catch up with you in Sydney Peter, with or without my car.[]

Hi Patrick, t'wasn't me, must be a different Peter as I foolishly I stayed in blighty over Crimbo. As for party mood, it was my Birthday yesterday so I may not have completely sobered up just yet from the last couple of nights [:D] (that's the great thing about not driving at the moment, but getting up earlier to stand at a bus stop more than outweighs any advantages).

See, how much more OT can I make a thread (and at least we were still talking about the rear of the car :ROFLMAO:

Ithink the picture in the top of the thread shows a bridge spoiler fitted to a hatch with the side trims of the rubber spoiler. The proper kits come with replacement side trims as well. In my opinion you shouldn't bother - the rubber spoiler looks much better!! One of the typically '80's styling features that looks better than the more modern counterparts- espeically with one of Ricks reflective Porsche lettering kits. I'd be willing to bet that the rubber spoiler is much better aerodynamically as well.

Under bumper spoiler??? Well I think we've discussed this one before. If that thing has any aerodynamic/gearbox cooling effect whatsoever then i'll attend the next Weltmiester Rolling Road day in a pink TuTu.

You don't have to feel left out if you replace your spoiler...

Sorry Peter, you got to my post before I edited it realising that I had made the mistake. Humble pardon.

No worries Patrick, it's easily done.
If I edit my post it'd all get very confusing here I think [:D]
Just to go further off topic, any news on the Headlights yet???

Saw that car for sale from the "specialist" 944 dealers in Yorkshire, i have often wondered what became of it [:(]

It's amazing the lengths to which you S2 owners will go to try make your cars as quick as the turbos!!!

I think Ewan what you mean is " it's amazing the lengths you S2 owners will go to to try and slow your cars down to the same as the turbo's "
