Rear Spoiler

Mine is an 04 996 C4S and the button is in the driver's footwell on the right hand side, sticking out through the fusebox cover. One press on the top half to pop up, press and hold the bottom half to retract.

I would rather it was on the dash though!

By default, on the turbo it is on the centre console, GT2/3 it is fixed, and on the others it in the footwell around the fusebox.
You can can raise and lower manually, even without the engine being on (although you need the key turned to accessories I think). It is primarily for cleaning. Although since it raises at 75mph, you should never have it raised in the UK on the public road. Of course, having a switch saves you from that one.

Once manually put up, I think it stays up, since this is provided in case of a fault with the sensor. As driving at high speed with it down is not recommended.
It should be quite easy to bypass the original switch and locate one wherever you like.

Thanks for that guys! Found the switch last night, I was convinced the car would look better with it up (as per the aerokit) however, I reckon I prefer it down-after all that!

I still remember the OPC sales guy showing me the spoiler and explaining that it went up at 75 and then down again at about 45.

"So it'll never go up in the UK then?"

"Errrrr......"

[:D]

There is a good reason to have the dash switch.....

Traffic rozzers are fully aware that a Porker with its tail up is breaking the speed limit so they can easily book you. If you have a switch on the dash and you get pulled over and the cop references your tail being up, you can say you were only "posing" and doing 60mph. Point to the switch on the dash. He then has to proove that you were speeding via some other means.

You might smug this but a friend of mine is a traffic cop and he tells me he has pulled many a Porker with its tail up. "it's bait to a fish".

Scouser, your article on renntech is excellent and I may well go that route.

In the meantime, I'm trying to learn where to put my foot so as to knock the switch, for exactly the reason you give. I'd just love to be in that situation and then get out and show him the raised spoiler on a stationary car... [:D]

Incidentally, FYI (at least on the MY00 and earlier 996 C2/C4), the tail auto raises at 74mph and lowers at 40mph. If it fails you get a red dash light. The tail lift on these cars despite what everyone thinks is NOT for downlift purposes (as with the GT3, GT2 and Turbo), its simply to direct air into the engine bay for cooling (and possibly for extra air flow == max bhp).
It's not uncommon to see cars fitted with non-Porsche approved fixed wings overheating and requiring 3rd radiators.

If it raises at 74mph on the speedo, in my case this is about 69 or 70mph on the GPS, so not necessarily speeding, officer?

my c2 coupe has a rocker switch down in the drivers footwell. Its on a black piece of plastic, you cant miss it. Just press it to raise the spoiler, however you have to hold it to lower it (but why would you want to[;)]).
