Rear Spoiler

Sorry to make two new posting in one day. I have only had my 2000 "X" reg car for a week and on my second fault. The rear spoiler warning light came on today, and when checked the spoiler was stuck up. I used the manual overide switch in the footwell and the spoiler moves slightly but is now half up (or half down). You can hear the motors trying to work but nothing happening. Any ideas?

I would if I could but I bought it with "No Guarantee". Already had the brake light switch replaced!

Where abouts are you in the country - It sounds like you need the services of a good independant Porsche Specialist. If we know where you live somebody should be able to recommend one.

Unfortuantley it was not repairable. £500 plus for a new unit from OPC!!!! Only had car for a few weeks..................now need wheels aligned!

It might be worth in the future checking out Porschapart for parts. They dismantle accident damaged Porsches and I used them for my previous 996 and they can save you pounds!

Thanks for that. I called them this am and they do have one £175 plus VAT. Too late now - £540 already given to OPC! Thank you very much for this info, I have safely recorded for future reference. Just in case others want their details they are

Michael

What exactly has failed that requires £540 to fix?

JCB..

The mechanical unit. It looks like one unit with a motor. I have kept the old one and will try and fix it!!!

Jeez - That's the only mechanical item that I could see £540!!!! []

This is why I'm going for the extended warranty, every part on modern cars costs a small fortune to replace and to be fair I don't think Porsche are that much worse than others. I've also gone for a 3rd party extended warranty on my Saab, after finding out that things likes the aircon compressor costs £1200, a turbo is £800, and some poor sod on the Saab owners club forum was quoted £2400 for fuel pump replacement [:-] Some of the figures mentioned on this website in relation to what are essentially minor parts are also eye-watering so it's the extended warranty for me. I have not had experience of this company, but in my opinion it looks more like a grab handle for the boot lid than a spoiler and as for drilling the boot lid!
Sorry for the negativity
Alan

P.S. I'm wondering how it will affect the efficiency of the standard spoiler, for this price I can hardly believe they have done any wind tunnel testing.

They are right you know, it does look like a towel rail and it will muck-up the airflow over the standard spoiler - just ask an early Audi TT owner if they think that is a good idea!

IMHO don't do it.

hiya, i would avoid at all costs, sorry to be negative but i had bad experience of fitting a non factory spec spoiler on my old sti and would stick to what other forum users recommend, regards jason p
