Being new to the marque I dont know if the amount of noise (stones hitting the underside/wheel arche) is normal or is it really bad on the 997, is there a solution ?

I'm not sure about the 997, but I guess it should be the same as the 996.

I have noticed that on BMWs, Merc, etc. you get very little stone noise.
I used to have a couple of Nissan 200 SX's and these sounded worse than the 996.

I think it is quite normal to hear the stones.
You have plastic wheel arch liners, so the stones will not damage the inside of the arches. The only issue might be chipping on the rolled edge of the wing, but this is true of any car.
I assume the noise is down to being a coupe (since this body configuration seem to make more noise in my experience), the wider/software tyres that tend to pick up more stones in the first place than a normal saloon, and the reduction in sound proofing necessary to keep the weight down and allow more of the engine noise in [:)]

I wouldn't imagine any solution is possible, since it isn't really a problem.
If you have heard a stripped out car, particalarly a rally car, you will see the difference a bit of foam/felt and a bit of carpet makes.

I've noticed this on my C2S and given that the rear wheel arches are not fully lined with the exhaust box and cooling panels exposed and the very wide tyres it can only be expected. Havent noticed any excessive stone chipping and the clear film on the rear wing should prevent any damage. Tyres always pick up more stones when they are new - need to wear them down a bit!

Guys...you know that feeling you get when you hear the noise, ........spitter spatter tink tink......and you get home and you look at your lovely arches and all is well......beautiful curves still intact[:)]........well thank heavens for those plastic liners.......and spare a though for us out here in certifiable lunatic land....cos when we get out it looks like acne on Meryl Streeps cheekbones []....and its probably only marginally less expensive to fix![:D]
