Hi all

Has anybody had any dealings with the rear suspension on the 944S2 ???

Im after finding out buy how much i can lower it by on the excentrics...
Or will i have to re-index the torsion bars????

Im going to be fitting a full set of coil over suspension to the car. + it WILL need to be lowered .......

I know its not an easy job to do on a 968 ,,re-indexing that is,,,, so im guessing its the same for an S2.....

Yours hoping

I Think there is a turbo running ledas without reindexing the T bars just lowered on the eccentrics, I guess it depends on what spring rate you are running on the coil overs and to a certain extent the spline your car left the factory on if the eccentrics are already near to the lowest setting you will have less adjustment than if your car is on a lower spline with lots of adjustment left. If it does need reindexing there are IIRC at least 3 bushes per side that could be replaced / upgraded, so room for improvements. I have some weltmeister bushes I haven't got round to fitting somewhere in the garage for this very purpose.

I want to say about 10-15mm, but I could be making it up. When I had ClubSport -20mm springs fitted to my S2 coupe the rear was lowered as far as it could be without reindexing and I was never totally happy with it (not quite as low as the front).

In my opinion, the best way to reindex is to completely drop the rear suspension assembly which is virtually the same as the 968. I havent done it yet but will do soon, it is a time consuming job. Gives you the opportunity to clean the unit. You also need to decide how low you want the car to sit as this will determine the number of teeth on each spline you rotate. This job needs to be carefully planned.

There are varying opinions on coil overs, whether you remove torsion bars or not. Basic arithmetic is required to work out the spring rates if you decide to retain the TB's. If TB's are removed you need to ensure that the lower shock mounting bolts are upgraded and that bushing is suitable because most shock bushes are for cars with TB's, most bushes are not strong enough to take full weight of the car.

Again, this is something I'm investigating at present for an S2 Racecar. My current gut feel is that I will retain the torsion bars and complement the springing with coil overs; Leda, Bilstein and one or two others to consider.

The adjusters on the car are really only for fine tuning of geometry settings.
