Rear tyre wear

Hello guys (and girls), how do you know when your rear shockers need changing? The reason why I am asking about shockers is that my C2S is 8 years old (with 49k) and they have never been changed. The car drives fine as far as I can tell and the tracking has been checked and I've been told that the alignment is fine, however the rear tyres do tend to wear on the inner edge excessively. Could it be that the tracking is infact correct but it's the worn shockers that are causing the odd tyre wear?

Cheers

What do you call excessively?

It's quite normal for 911's to wear the inner edges of the rear tyres due to the wheels being set for negative camber.

Regards,

Clive

The factory settings for the rear camber is on the high (negative) side which will wear the inner tyre edges as Clive says. It's not a "tracking" issue but it sounds like you could use a proper geo set up. Typically this will give you a bit more front neg camber and a bit less rear. Not only does this improve the tyre wear but also takes out the understeer. We could suggest a good place to visit......[;)]

Thanks for the replies, when I say excessively I mean the middle and outer edge hardly worn and the inner edge totally worn away, that can't be normal.. I'll get her checked over again.

As before, nothing to do with alignment but too much neg camber on the rear. This increases as the suspension settles in over the years, making the inner edge wear excessively, so it's important to get it looked at regularly.
