REAR UNDERTRAY ON or OFF?

Mine is off, better cooling less weight, poor design stuck right on the engine.........[>:]
 
I think it should be left on for a smooth airflow under the car and it keeps the engine clean.
I know the issue is keeping the engine cool but does it make that much difference?

If the factory felt the need to supply the car with one fitted then I would say it must work pretty well that way....As nature intended

Mine is off because it doesn't fit with the full Cargraphic system. But if the standard system was fitted I would almost certainly leave it on....As you so rightly say...Airflow

I had been advised to remove it for cooling purposes. In traffic on a hot day etc. it shafts the exhaust valve guides or something.

Just because the factory fit it doesn't mean that it should stay on. Remember the RS was not tested to the same extreme as the regular C2, running non stop in Nevada or whatever. Why do you think the 175mph Turbo 2 does without this 'airflow' feature?... because cooling was even more of a problem on that model.

It also leads to parts prematurely failing, rather than failing instantly - so the damage creeps up on you.

Just what I've heard; it may be b*llocks of course! :)

Get it off...............you can spot the oil leaks then........

PS Ran my 964 C$ with both undertray on and off -no appreciable difference on dirt over the engine........+ more noise!!

Lee, you undoubtedly know more about RSs. I just regurgitate more hearsay, that's all [;)]

Either that or I dreamt it along with Desmundo putting the RS out to pasture. [:D]
 
And also, I'm a bit cynical when it comes to 'Porsche knows best'.

They got a lot right, but some faults took ages to materialise...

- Dizzy belt failure in 964s
- Dual mass failure in 964s
- Wiring loom self immolation in 993s
- Porous blocks with 996tts

etc.

And the rear undertray may also have been retained for a 'compromise' reason, such as drive-by noise requirements.

It does stop the oil drips on the drive tho' [;)]
