Rear view mirror fixing - help

944 rear view mirror got knocked and came off windscreen!

There is a metal piece which looks as if it pulls off the mirror arm, to be able to stick it to the windscreen, then replace the mirror. Sounds easy but I can't get the metal fixing off the mirror. It is so tight.

Is there a knack or clip (or something) to release the fixing?

Also what is best adhesive to refix the fixing to the windscreen?

Thanks in advance.

Peter,
Assuming you have the whole mirror in one piece but no longer attached to the windscreen it should just be a case of resticking. I find the liquid adhesive that Halfords do much more effective than the pads.

If you are trying to separate the ball and socket joint that allows the mirror adjustment once fixed, is there any need?

Not sure what Loctite 319 is but I used normal Loctite superglue to stick mine back on and it lasted 4 years until I sold it (still on as far as I know) the mirror slides out of the bracket but I couldn't get mine out or rather was worried how to get it back in when on the windscreen so I glued the whole thing in one and held it in place by hand until dry (couple of minutes)

I once made the mistake of separating the mirror from the ball joint on the arm. In the end, all efforts to squeeze/ co-erce it back on ending up with a cracked windscreen !

The replacement screen came with the clip already bonded onto the screen.

if you get stuck and need a replacement mirror, clip and arm I have one on the S2 that I'm dismantling.

Yours

Chris
