REAR WHEEL AXLE NUT

devans

New member
Hi all,

May be a stupid question but just about to put the new nut on my rear wheel axle and discovered the torque setting is 340ft lbs or 460 Nm. I thought i had a really good torque wrench but discovered it only goes to 150ft lbs.
Are there any genius mathematicians out there who can calculate my weight of 13 stone (fully clothed) as im not doing this naked.....balancing on the end of a 1.5 foot torque wrench.
Or do i just jump up and down on it until it doesnt move anymore!!!
thanks

Seem you need a load of 226lbs [just over 16 stones] at the end of your 1.5ft torque wrench which should give you a turning moment of 340 ft/lb.
Hope that is correct and hope it helps!

Ahh, but you didn't allow for jumping! [;)]

Or, looking at it another way, if you are 13 stone, you need a bar 1.87 feet long.

A heavy duty Breaker bar is not expensive. You may need a metre one to get the old NUT off.
Then mark 1.8 Metres on the bar and stand on that part too line it up
Halfords Professional tools are REALLY good

Might need to get one now. Job is done but i now have a broken torque wrench. Obviously must have jumped too hard
