Rear Window Pic

Does anyone have picture of a rear window with the plastic rubber seal locating 'strips' attached? Obviously not fitted but as supplied......

I have just had both screens removed, scuttles treated and reinstalled. The front was rather scratched so I replaced it but the rear was good and the window man reckoned he could replace it with the usual caveat. Unfortunately he couldn't get the seal to sit properly, it has curled under at the top section and he reckons its because the plastic strip that locates the seal bonded to the screen was broken. Off course he didn't tell me this at the time!

I'm trying to understand why his would cause the curl under affect and a picture would help..........on a positive note did a good job of treating the rust, blending the paint across the roof and the front is good with no squeaks.

The plastic trim forms a channel that the seal clips into. With bits broken the seal wont stay in place as you now know. You could try bonding the rubber in where it doesnt clip in.

More likely that the screen has not been positioned properly. If it's too far away from the edge of the aperture there is not enough for the rubber to grip. If the grip at the edge of the screen was broken the rubber would not stay in position.

Don't get them to re-fit it as they'll cut into your nice new paint. The gap between the screen and body can be filled with silicant to stop the rubber curling back.

Thanks Chaps.........he did bond the seal to the screen prior to fitting but reckon Clyde is right in the positioning theory.

It's not as bad as it was before the repair and and I can see the silicon solution working. I'm confident it won't leek and the risk to the paint would warrant trying an 'insitu' solution. Taking it back in next week as they lost the thin bottom bolt from the wiper and will get them to pack it then.

Probably wouldn't have to remove the whole outer seal just along the top edge. In some areas it could do with being a tighter fit anyway...........
