Rear window wiper/de-mister problem

Hi folks, the rear window heating element has never worked now since I've had the car, I can live with this but now the rear wiper has stopped also. The motor gave up the ghost a few months ago and I fitted a new (second hand) one, it worked fine for a while, then worked occasionally and now not at all [] I thought it may be the switch so I've checked this weekend and I have power at the switch and at the motor but still no movement! However when I've checked the fuse box there doesn't appear to be a fuse for the rear window, just a relay which is in position G3 and is also the fuse check relay with the green led on it and it doesn't appear to be working!!! I placed several good fuses on it and no light!! So either the led is no good or the relay is shot, could this be related to the problems with my rear wipe?? All it says in the relay guide is Rear Window/Fuse Check.

Any ideas lads?

The relay with the Led is the rear demist only along with the fuse chaeck. if there is no light check the fuse for the rear demist. Failing that check the voltage at the cables on the gas struts at the rear hatch - the power goes via the struts to the window. Often the small cables fall apart or like mine did just melt!

HTH!

I guess this a 2.7 lux with oval dash. Common reason for non-functioning rear heater is the broken earth, which if it is the same as the early 944 earths through the right hand strut. The strut has a small sleeve about 15mm long and opens the earth return as the larger plastic slide (with earth wire attached) reaches the end of the strut. If your courtesy light does not operate from the tailgate then look for a broken wire at the strut.
You could have broken wires in the hatch harness causing the wiper-motor to cease. Have a look at Clark'sgarage.com for a wiring diagram, or visit www.cannell.co.uk and search his 944 manuals for the same thing and you will know what to check.

If by any chance you have just replced the struts, put the old ones back and see if it works then. I bought dodgy unelectric struts and surprise nothing worked afterwards!
