Rear wiper arm irregularity?

Ordered an aero rear wiper last week and just tried to fit it now, but can't!

The front wiper arms are like this: C______ and hook onto the wiper blade, according to PET the rear is the same design. However, my rear wiper arm ends in a kind of knuckle with a hole straight through it and a clip in the centre. The blade currently on the car has a piece of turned metal rod clipped into it which in turn slides into the knuckle and is held in place by the spring-loaded centre clip.

Is there any way of adapting this to fit or do I need to start hunting for a replacement wiper arm?

Thanks.

Eldavo,

Mine foxed me for the same reason; there are two designs of rear wiper arm (early and late), and you have an early one ...

Pull the turned pin out of the old wiper with a pair of pliers and push it into the new wiper. Certainly on Bosch blades there is a hole of the right size in just the right place.

Job done.

(Apply a smidge of light oil at the same time to make it work more smoothly)

Cheers Oli,

Have tried that but the new wiper already has a bar in place where the hole could go. Could be due to the new wiper being an aero wiper that it doesn't have the hole? Think I need to find someone who has removed their rear wiper and has the later style arm!

Eldavo,

Sounds like you simply have the wrong design of wiper. As I said, Bosch wipers definitely work (and only cost a couple of quid from ECP/GSF etc) - I'm not sure about other designs.

I don't think that the early and late wiper arms are interchangable; I think you may end up changing the motor and gearbox as well, although I'm not 100% on this.
