Rear wiper arm

I've been driving for about 3 months with the front wiper arms tied together under the bonnet so with a week off last week I finally got the new arm fitted.

I decided to replace all the blades this week as the rear rubber split but just went out to fit them (new aero style) and noticed the rear arm does not have a hook on the end, is this normal and if it is, what type of blade do I need?

The new rear blade has been opened now so it would be even better if I could just buy an arm that fits and has the hook on the end if they are available anywhere.

If you have an early type (up to 1989-ish) then you need a convertor. If you have a later car then the hatch glass and the wiper assembly differ and you can use a conventional wiper without messing around.

Due to the differences in the hatch you cant simply fit a later arm or mechanism, so a convertor is you cheapest bet.

Yup, I made this mistake with my old car - you need a wiper that accepts a barrel-type pin, all the aero ones are hooks so you'll have to go with old fashioned technology for it.

I found a suitable one at a local motor factors.

I had the same issue with my Square Dash 944, found and fitted this item 280923762025 on fleabay, new multifit aerowiper, I trust that you still have the fitting pin.

Thanks all, I'd never heard of the side pin fitting before, it's Bosch aero wipers that I have and it looks like they do a multi clip version that I should have bought:

delete it!

That was the answer I was expecting to see first but I love having a rear wiper again as my BMW doesn't have one and I miss it every time I drive that car, I'm even fitting a bigger blade to clear more of the screen!

You'll have no excuses for not seeing me looming large in your rear view mirror at Knockhill in May now!

looming large in your rear view mirror
I had heard that a more typical view of your good self was to be seen forward through ones windscreen, as a dot dwindling in the far distance ahead....

Awe, that's the nicest thing anyone on here's ever said to me!

Anyway Knockhill's only a short track so I'll be back round again in no time ;)

I'm hoping the sun will be out for my first track day so there will be no need for wipers, as long as I don't get overtaken by Steve I will be happy!

Who would have thought changing a wiper could be so difficult!

Should this pin be attached to the wiper arm rather than the blade, I can't get it off the blade?

Yes, the pin should be free, protrude through the arm and allowing the blade to attach via spring clip

Thanks, spring clip is still in place but the pin is stuck in the old blade and I am struggling to remove it as it's bending, does anyone know if the pin can be purchased on it's own?

Have you tried to snip or saw your way through the thin metalwork on the old blade and free the pin ?

No but I did try to break it with a hammer, will try and cut it tomorrow!
