just cleaning the 964 for a wedding on saturday and the rear wiper arm sprung back and had broken at the end of the arm, where the angle bit meets the bottom arm.does anybody know if i have to buy the whole lot or just the arm.any help would be appricated.

Andy,

I feel for you - I suspect many, many 964/993 owners have done exactly the same thing - myself included. I did mine the first week I had the car when I was washing it.

The pain gets worse, I'm afraid, when you find out that the replacement arm (only) will cost you north of £100!! Bert Gear has the updated 993 part (which is slightly stronger and a tad shorter) for the grans sum of £105.16 (inc VAT) + carriage. The link is here. I suspect the OPC may not be much different - don't forget the 10% discount!!

Regards

Dave

Andy,
Snap!, I had prolonged the attraction to straightening mine last weekend. It was slightly bent, as if someone in the past had leaned on it. Should have left well alone. It must be made of the cr*piest peice of cast aluminium, that with the gentliest of touch broke in two !!! there were a few expletives and a shrug if the shoulders, until i phoned the OPC for a new one £100 + vat.... Whaaaat! how much ..... Anyway place my order, and guess what i'm still waiting. Apparently they are in demand! so much so that they are on re-order as 964/993 owners have complained about the poor quality finish on current stock. Who knows when they will be back in stock. If you obtain one in the meantime, post up where from. Cheers

ordered new wiper arm from berts.he has them in stock but no 10% discount on this item.
thanks for all your help as usual.

Your right of course Dave. I saw that one from a 993 on ebay last night and having looked at my rear this morning it is nothing like it[&:].

Speaking of wiper arms..when did our front arms get upgraded to the 2 spring version and are these more efficient than the old single spring versions? If so would the new versions be automatically supplied when ordering at an OPC or do I need a specific part number?

Thanks for that link Dave, i'll order my rear arm from Bert Gear as the one from my local OPC has still not arrived and while i'm on i'll order a bonnet badge as well. Cheers.

Steve,

According to PET the new twin spring wiper arms were introduced for the 92 model year. I believe the OPC will only supply the latest version - the single spring version are no longer available TTBOMK.

Just to confuse matters, there are actually 3 wiper arms available for the 92 MY (also fit earlier cars)

964.628.028.01 Drivers side regardless of LHD/RHD
964.628.028.02 Passenger side (LHD)
964.628.028.03 Passenger side (RHD)

You obviously just need 2 - just pick the correct 2!!

Regards

Dave

Thanks Dave, those numbers confirm what I've just found on Bert's site and thanks to Bert for confirming that he stocks these 2 spring versions.

Surprisingly interesting post, which did not hold out much promise at the start[:D]

I shall certainly be taking special care with my rear wiper are in future.

My driver's side wiper only seems to be in good contact with the screen along about 2/3rds of its length, would the two spring wiper solve this problem or do I just need to make an adjustment?

this is a problem with RHD cars, adjustment wont help, someone once said cheap blades work better

I thought I was the one who was unlucky enough to snap a rear wiper arm! First time I washed my 964 Turbo, I noticed a slight kink in the arm so I gently tried to straighten it and guess what - snap!

£105 quid later and I have a nice new arm which I leave well alone..........

Too right ...... there is obviously something in the saying "if its not broke don't try to fix it!" I just won't learn!

Slider, I started a thread on re-positioning the wiper arms at rest, some years ago. It is quite straightforward.I did it because the bulkier blades on the 993 masked forward vision too much for me.I didn't think the 964 had the same problem.
