Rear Wiper Blanking Screw/Plate

I had been looking forward to removing the rear wiper assembly this weekend (smoother lines and all that). However, I'm stuck with a part that Porsche say is no longer available. Essentially the 'blanking' kit is as 944, PET illustration 803-05 Model 9442 Year 89. The part number no longer available and no superseded is [FONT=arial,helvetica"]P999.707.301.40 O ring.

Arguably a non-Porsche replacement might work, but this was the part number given that ensures proper fitment etc..

Has anyone done the same and removed their rear wiper? What parts did you use? Not an old rubber grommet and a dab of bathroom silicone hopefully..!

Cheers

And what's wrong with a rubber grommet and black silicone!? Got my grommet from the Mini Centre and looks and works just fine.

Could be Paul. Let me check out in detail the condition etc this weekend and I'll come back to you.

Cheers

I'm sure it's fine mr pg (responding sensitively). But I have two destructive toddlers who I know will find a way of poking the grommet out sooner or later and when it happens it'll be raining..!

Nice one Jim. I'll get on the case. The Porsche parts cost for the (same) quoted to me was nearly £40! This one looks a bargain...

Apologies Paul, but do you have the full url for the Promax page with the bung on it? I've looked around the l/h nav links but couldn't find it..

Cheers Kev. What's the bung diameter roughly and is it a push fit or a two-sided fixture..?

Just come off the phone to Promax. The reason why the site says "not suitable for 964" is that they received complaints from the US market saying it was slightly loose when tightened up (thinking that rear glass is thinner than other 911 models). I suggested that it might be because the US market has different rear glass compared to EU due to Federal car safety laws.

To make it fit regardless, I mentioned that it might be a simple case of filing down the plastic screw lug a couple of mm's, or cut to fit an additional rubber washer/seal.

Presumably you've had no problems - i.e. night and tight with no water leaks/ingress?
