I never use this ugly contraption. It seems straightforward job to remove and will save
2.5kg. so its coming off as soon as i can locate a suitable plug for the glass. Anyone
know of source. ive seen the promax one that looks nice but a bit pricey for what it is.

I have read somewhere about a plug from the 993.

Good Luck but did not realise that 2.5kg makes all the difference. We could all I suppose shed some weight!![:D]

Hi bud,

I bought a rear wiper delete from eBay back in February. Its not for sale at the mo, but here's the guys details if you want to get in touch:

www.9xx.co.uk/
paypal@9xx.co.uk

Its a hard plastic 2 piece plug, fits great and looks alot better than that wiper!

These items must be like the holy grail. Prior to buying mine I was told by everyone that they werent for sale!

Also, if you go on eBay.com there's a chap from Greece who sells an alu one for a few more quid. He would probs ship to the UK?

Chris

I got my plug from Promax...about £20. http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/rear_wiper_del.htm

Nicely engineered.

It's not designed for a 964 though and it would appear that the glass on the 964 is a little thinner. I just used one of the washers/spacer from the wiper to pad it out a little.

Looks far better without the wiper for sure....

Mine lives in a nice warm and cosey box in the garage loft, wouldn't want it getting cold or wet [;)]

Strangly rear screen is always dry when reversing off the drive and Rain-x solves the problem when moving. Must be that it is always wet up north Steve!!

You're not wrong! [:D]

I will findout tommorrow, but a lot of lads in the Vw scene use these for there Vws as a cleaned Euro look. Last time I heard you can buy these from B&Q as a household item, will findout.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Yep, I used the Promax bung too for about £20.

Essentially, it's use I beleive as originating for the US market where the US regulations stipulate thicker safety glass (is my understanding).

I needed to file down the threaded stub to make the two halves mate fully. Also cut out my own full flat rubber seals as the 'o' ring in the 'cap' pulled into the glass hole a tad when tightening up (i.e. the hole being @ 0.5mm larger than the o ring diameter).

The fitting of the rear wiper I beleive was standard for the UK market (understandably). In Italy the wiper was on the options list I'm told - now they know a thing or two about what looks good!

The 9xx one is available at £15 + 4.95 p&p from website.not on ebay at present.the greek one
is on ebay but a lot more £. I will see if Norm gets back with his VW one and keep an eye on ebay for a few days.

Ok boys, check these out

http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufacturer_product.php?manufacturer=Speedtech&category=Bodystyling&product=WiperBlank

these are glass blanks which a few fellow mates use on their cars. But please check sizes!

Ask for Richard.

Ah Venom, I remember these guys from "back in the day". Started out with a red Corrado didnt they (or thats what I remember from VW shows)?

Anywho, the glass bung looks good. Not too sure about having to use silicone to fit. I wonder if the edge is notched, so that it sits in place? If not it would be very easy to push out.

Chris

Yes Richard did start off with a modded red Corrado back in the day of the Golf magazine, that was years ago!!!

You can use silicon but in case you want to take it back off, I would use something else. The edge of the glass circle is notched.
