Rear Wiper delete

Worth doing the rear wiper delete?

It is pretty darn ugly arrangement (IMHO) or will i miss it - come a rainy day!!!

Comments most welcome!!!

Chris,You wouldn't miss it if you put a bit of Rain X on the rear window post removal! No real point from a weight saving view unless you're doing it for aesthetic reasons and the biggest plus is you wont have to shell out hundreds of pounds when your wiper arm fractures, an all to common occurance.
Christian............

Last time I checked we are living in England and it rains alot here.... After all Enya titled an album "A day without rain" - referring to living here. I suppose from an economic point of view you can save a bit of money on replacing the rear wiper blades every year.. :)

My German spec 993 has never had one (nor a sunroof) and I have never missed either. Rain soon runs off when you start moving.

....Rain soon runs off when you start moving.

That's what I've found and even reversing out of drive I don't use it because (illogically) it wipes three times rather than once when you press the switch so you get clear-scrape-scrape.

Ditto, I've been trying to find one on the interweb since seeing Matthew's post but they seem to be umpteen shapes and blade configurations I'm sure I'd buy the wrong one. It would be great to have a one-wipe-wiper[8|]

Yes, listed here;

It's entirely possible I am going blind, so to speak, but I cannot find the relevant relay in any of the three possible locations I was aware of (under the boot carpet adjacent to the front bulkhead and on either side of the engine compartment.

Can anyone tell me where the rear window relay is located please?

As memory serves, you remove the trim behind the rear seats - easy, just a few fixings - and the gubbins is all there.

I got that far and changed my mine about the relay swap - can't think why now but probably along the lines of hardly ever being out in the car when it rains.

Les was exactly correct with regard to location. The relay is mounted horizontally on the left of the wiper motor bracket. Swapping out the relay takes seconds after you've removed the four self-tapping screws that hold the rear bulkhead and "parcel shelf" trim in position.

The wiper now sweeps just once per push of the switch.

I bought this thingy Matthew posted ...

... a piece of cake to fit and now pressing the rear wipe button does just one wipe not three. Heaven.

Personally, I like the appearance of the wiper. I think it was Maurice that pointed out that the arm can break. It does and mine did. Oh well, I still want to wipe the rear screen (once not thrice) when setting off in rainy weather. And just about everything has been replaced on my 993 (it's like the brush that's had 3 new handles and 4 new heads) so why not add the wiper to the list? IMHO it's very useful and not ugly!

Normally down the bottom at its thinnest point. If its twisted at all that when it seems to go, can be while washing the car or just pulling the arm off the screen at the wrong angle.

Must do the relay change on mine!

I bought a new wiper arm recently from OPC Reading: £113 after club discount inc VAT. The old one snapped at the thin mid point just as I raised it off the screen whilst washing the car.
