Rear wiper switch

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but just reminded from another posting ...

My rear wiper switch is one of the buttons on the far left hand side of the central dash. However, on the wiper stalk I notice you can pull it towards you for wash, but there is also a sprung postition if you push it away from you, which doesn't seem to do anything.

Does anyone know whether there are any contacts for made when the switch is pushed away from you and if so, has anyone identified the wires and connected them to operate the rear wiper. Or, have I got this totally wrong and something should happen when the switch is pushed away ?

Oh good. I don't have a headlight washer system (outside of me with a bucket of water, that is), so presumably there are some wires already in place that I could jumper across to the rear wiper - I'll take a look at the wiring diagram when I get a moment and see what I can find.

Martin.

There is a yellow/blue wire coming from the stalk which goes to the headlamp washer relay. If you could track down where this goes on your car, it could be connected to the rear wiper switch or relay.

If you want the wiring diagram, drop me an email.

It's for the headlight washer system [;)]

wow! Glad I read this thread as pulling the washer stalk towards you doesn't wash the lights even when there on! I thought the fuse had gone or something! Would have looked a right numpty at the OPC![8|]

Hi Richard,

Thanks - I do have the wiring diagram already (downloaded it from somewhere last year). Looks like the yellow/blue from the stalk needs to connect to the blue out of the rear wiper switch. Don't suppose you have any info about where connector X2/5 physically is, do you ?

Thanks, Martin.

X2/5 is a pain to get to - it's under the carpet at the back of the rear section of the footwell. (I had to get to it when I did my cruise retrofit). You would have to run a wire all the way back, under the carpets, so I would connect it to the switch if I were you.

100 years ago a local guy hooked up something to the wiper stalk. He did not have headlight washers. When you pushed the wiper stalk forward it turned on something. It has been so long I do not remember.

I played around with this back then. I even bought the silver connector from Porsche that goes on an unused pin on the back of the switch assembly. If you hooked up a wire to that silver pin you could use the wire to power something. I think. Been so long. But I did take pictures back then.
