rebuild 997 engine

car car

New member
Hi
I am having to rebuild a 2006 911 engine following a cylinder 6 failure at 19000 miles ,full service history
Unfortunately Porsche wanted £9400 to replace the engine and after seven attempts to get them to step up to the plate i have been forced to do it myself
I shall be replacing the liners on all 6 cylinders and replacing the already famous intermediate shaft bearing as well as the rear main seal and will be throwing away the crack cap con rods for billet rods
My question is this
when taking down the crank carrier to check the oil contamination and possible effect on the bearings I have found four of the big end bearings to be out of line by about 1mm from new
this is the first time the engine has been stripped and the picture shows one of the con rods as it was taken out in the order it was in the car
I am still gobsmacked and want as much info about this before i go back to porsche
you can see if you look close at the picture the running line of the bearing as it sits in the rod

some F1 guys are doing the work.
billet rods http://www.flat6innovations.com/shop/product.php?productid=16220&cat=375&page=1 or similar because cap rods are a cost cutting exercise and as you can see they dont do there job
they are also balanced ...about £1000
below is the cylinder

The person to speak to is Barry at http://www.hartech.org.uk/ They have a lot of experience in rebuilding these engines and may have seen that bearing problem you have. They may even have a cheaper solution for you (including a way to avoid this happening again in the future - usually caused by overheating)

This web site is flagged up by Norton as "known malicious" so being the cautious type when it comes to computers I decided not to open it.

its a web site that does full porsche engine rebuilds and race upgrades at various stages
theres nothing funny about it
they are the people who do the ims bearing upgrades
