Rebuilt 944

Not sure if this is the right approach to 944 purchase, but this has been my path to my present position with my 944, bought in October last year.

I set a budget of £5000 (the price of a used Clio) and, although having gone over by about 10%, I now have a car that I am happy with and confident knowing that the work I have done will last a few years until the right 993 comes up (and savings being on target).

Seems a lot of money but it's only the VAT amount on a new Boxster []

Haven't told the wife yet.

Sounds liek a bargain to me... but then I'm about to rebuild my S2 and I know the numbers are a LOT bigger![:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

Looks OK to me.. and £945 for a full respray seems a pretty good deal!
I'm curious to know what the 10 bolts at £55 were for though?
You've done it the one way, ie buy a cheap car to start with and spend the money on it, knowing what's been done, and hopefully you'll have trouble free motoring for a good while.
I did it the other this time, spend the money first on what seems a good sound car that needs nothing doing apart from routine servicing - although can you ever be sure?
Just horses for courses I guess.

Hi steve,

The respray is being done by the bodyshop we use at the garage for general paintwork on our cars and is doing it inbetween other jobs to keep the price down. I popped in last week and one side of the sills/quarters has been done with the other side starting this week.

The 10 bolts are for fitting the spacers for the back wheels but are still in their wrappers at the minute. The spacers (among many others) were an eBay purchase after a few beers one night.

eBay, i've found, is a very dangerous pastime.

With hindsight I should have started with an S2 or Turbo base car but he 8v came along at the right time and had a folder which, once organised, filled 3 100-sheet polypocket-folders full with history, low owners and it was local. Also, the budget would have to have been considerably bigger for an S2/turbo project.

Although not an investment it should give some summer fun over the next few years.

Cheers
