Recently bought 997 C2 '05 IMS bearing failure

Looking for advice on what future issues could be seen after a failed IMS (shaft and bearings) replacement.

car bought with 50000 miles, and only since done 500 in the two months i have had it. Its had new starter motor and alternator under warranty, and this latest issue is looking very expensive. Currently stripped at the reputable Indy where bought.

Will the work be a silver lining or a cause for concern?

First of all timorich welcome [:)]

How long is a inch of string (25.4mm) with the issue of IMS bearings. ( Your 911 is an 2005 as mine - engine number 68510101 / M97 / 01 which though production date march 2005 has the new IMS bearing fitted. )

If the IMS failed resulting in engine damage and its requires to be reconstructed are the Indy prepared to do that.
It's a questionable point.

Ok, so shaft and bearing for sure are shot, but
no bore scoring
not debris to oil filter and pump
many smaller parts recommended doing while rebuild, but thats Ok, its just the labour that over running the warranty limit, significantly!! with remove, rebuild, commisioning.

First of all very sorry to hear this. You don't say whether they are covering the work or not ? The acknowledged experts for 997 engine rebuilds are Hartech....I think they do four engines a week. A lot of indy's use them rather than do the work themselves. Maybe worth asking them given your situation. Lots of information on Pistonheads...and the guy that runs Hartech posts on there.
 
To answer your initial post I'd like to think this can be a Silver Lining, particularly given that you've just been told there's no other internal damage - very lucky!
Hopefully your Indy will give good sound advice on the repair, and useful updates to make at the same time to ensure that the engine can give its all for a very long time with no concerns about it's longevity. You'll have proper peace of mind, and actually a more saleable 997 if it ever comes to that as people who 'know' will trust a rebuilt engine if done with a reputable Indy.
(They should also warrant their own work for at least a year too, IMO)
 
No car is bomb proof.

My maxin is look after it from new or old.
