Dave Wilkinson, c'mon own up...!
It's a bit of a long story!!! I sold the car through RPM in January of 2011. It was bought, sight unseen, by a British guy who lives in Marbella, Spain and he commisioned RPM to do a 3.8 litre rebuild and a gearbox refurb prior to it's delivery to Spain. Rumour has it (at least it says so in the advert) that the work cost £17,000.
The work, in fact, became a bit of a nightmare because one of the new cams fitted as part of the rebuild started to break up during the running in - which RPM had fortunately organised on a rolling road. This meant that the engine had to be stripped and built again - for which RPM claimed on their insurance.
All of this had a huge delaying affect on the work since RPM had to fit it in with all the other work they had going on but the car eventually got finished towards the end of Summer last year and was delivered to Malaga in September 2011!!
I had a few conversations with the new owner - and even sent him the KPH speedo for it - but, according to Darren at RPM, it seems the new owner had suffered some recent health problems and had decided to sell the car soon after taking delivery. It's been up for sale with Benal Cars for a few months now. I guess the £25K asking price isn't so far off the mark if the rebuild was £17K and would make the last owner a fairly significant loss - particularly assuming that Benal are planning to make some profit out of it.
There was a thread raised by Robin Crossley (here) last October when he saw the car in Fuengirola.
It will be interesting to see if I hear from a new owner anytime soon.
Regards
Dave
