recommendation for getting brake pads replaced?

Hi

Does anyone have any experience of (and would recommend) an indy for replacing brake pads? Herts, Bucks, NW London would be ideal.

And can anyone advise on costs? Porsche website is not showing service/maintenance costs at the moment, but I'm guessing OPC will be around 1k.

2005 C4S, 40k miles on original pads and discs with no issues.

Brakes have started squealing and sound rough when cold. Have also noticed quiet squealing at low speed (20-25mph) when brakes are not applied.

My handbrake is not as effective as it used to be - I have to pull it up quite hard for it to hold on a slope. I'm thinking that the quiet squealing at low speeds might be the handbrake sticking slightly and causing wear - I had an issue with small stones getting into the handbrake on a BMW M3 in the past and that resulted in the handbrake sticking slightly resulting in squealing. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks!

South Bucks, I'd suggest Simon at Hillcrest [http://www.hillcrestspecialistcars.com/], but I think that might be the wrong end of the county for you.

PSR Automotive in Bishops Stortford. Paul & Dan are absolutely spot-on in everything they do, I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else.

What state are the discs in? It would be quite normal to replace the discs at that sort of mileage as they are prone to a) corrosion, especially the inner face and b) cracks spreading out from the holes. The problem may be with the discs and not the pads.
I would be surprised if a PC would charge as much as £1k. I replaced my standard pads with Pagids, which are considerably more expensive than OE, and the whole lot inc labour was under a grand.
The wear sensors have to be replaced too, btw.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Tcscaptain - that sounds like a good suggestion to check the discs... But I don't know what I'm looking for! Are the discs really expected to need replacing at 40k miles?

If I bring my car to an opc for a quote, would they charge me for the diagnosis labour if I decide to not use them??!

Wear sensors? Do all 997s have wear sensors? So if I haven't seen any warning lights, does that mean my pads are probably alright?

Look on the inside face of the disc's,they tend to rust and pit quite badly
If you get on well with your local opc ask if they could pop it on a ramp to check,it is worth asking
