Recommendation for parts supplier - Shropshire vicinity

Guest

New member
One of the first things I want to do when I get the 968 home is to do a quick check over the oily bits especially the chain, tensioner pads and cam gears, Also I'd like to replace any likely weak items, such as hoses, thermostat, water pump, a new set of plugs, and a quick oil and filter change.

Can any of you guys recommend the best place to get bits from preferably in my neck of the woods.

Cheers

Mike .. only two more days till D.Day[8D]

Mike, I guess you mean mail order, don't think there's owt like this in Shropshire [:D]. You could try Porsch-Apart (www.porsch-apart.co.uk) or the Porscheshop (www.porscheshop.co.uk). I've only bought odds & ends from them but they both seem pretty good.

Porsche shop is reasonably close in Brum so looks a likely target for some credit card abuse[;)]

Also for those bits not available from anywhere except Porsche -- you can speak to your chosen OPC and they will happily post stuff out as well. That has saved me a lot of time and money.

Almost forgot, if you become a PCGB member you might also get a discount from an OPC (10% I think, is usually allowed!), now there is an incentive.

I'd echo that Porscheshop don't have a very good reputation amongst the 944 boys.

What about Bert at Berlyn Services?

I take it Porsche Shop problem is delivery rather than the parts themselves or are they generally no good.

I'm obviously checking out the web etc, 9M are pretty close in Warrington anyone else who I could have missed ?

Wrong part, parts missing, parts 25% more expensive than other places. Take your pick.

I tend only to use Berlyn, OPC and Porschapart unless it's modified kit I'm after.

(via mailorder)
Poor quality (an exhaust which they had promised was OEM, and was not!) , late deliveries, four months to get a refund.

Still they are in the traders index so they must be good - NOT!!!!

I've used Design911 and found them to be good, also the part guy at Malton is good, with reliable delivery.

I bought a Porsche crest badge from Design911 a few weeks ago (to mount on the steering wheel). I confirmed with them by email that the badge would fit, and on receipt discovered that it wouldn't.

I duly returned it to them and they would refund only 75% of the purchase price, claiming that I'd "wrongly ordered the part".

I pointed out that we'd had an email exchange to confirm it's suitability but they refused to accept any responsibility.

The badge wasn't too expensive, but God help anyone who orders, say, an exhaust and finds it doesn't fit.

My recommendation - avoid them.

Rant over. Glad to have got that off my chest!

Rgds,

Bert Gear at Berlyn Services will save you money and give good advice.

Simon Butterworth at Porsch-Apart especially if you want something 2nd hand such as wheels.

PH Sportscars again for 2nd hand but also good for work to be done ( no website but phone is 01332 799298 ).

I have to say, I totally agree with Design 911 (Europorscha is the same Co) comments. Sound shifty, send parts which arent up to scratch and then renage when the refund time comes.

Whereas, Ian and Paul at Specialist Cars in Malton are ace. Will always price match, many parts are OEM and if they ever make a mistake, its free collection and delivery as well as discount or free part!!! I cannot fault them............

Personally, I would avoid PH Sportscars for repairs. It's more like a graveyard for Porsches that have seen better days. I have never forgotten driving into the yard and seeing the proprietor steam-cleaning an engine blockand the spray going all over a 911 parked nearby. But perhaps it was his. They are OK for spares, especially 924s but not cheap. Just a personal view, some people say PH is the bees-knees but I know people who say the opposite.
