Recommendations for Aircon service

[FONT=Trebuchet MS"][FONT=verdana,geneva"]Hi there,

I would be grateful if any members in the Edinburgh and surrounding area could recommend a reputable company for aircon servicing. Previously I have used Stable Air for my wife's car, but was wondering what companies other owners in the region use and recommend. My car is shortly due its first major service and I'm slightly reluctant to pay the OPC £200+ for the additional aircon service.

Also what is the latest position with supplying your own Mobil 1 @ Edinburgh OPC?

You could contact Brian Miller 0131 443 7806 and ask him to recommend someone or he could perhaps do the job .
As to the oil contact the OPC and ask the question ,they used my own oil when they last did my service 2 years ago ,my car is due its big service 4 yearly in May and do not know who i will go to ie indy or opc ,will phone around for quotes .Glasgow OPC refused point blank to use my own oil .It saves you approx £80 as oil from Costco was about £24 for 4ltrs

Edinburgh OPC told me I could supply my own oil for a Servcie in August. I suggest you ask when booking your service. I have just sold my 2003 Boxster (August 2009) which never had an Air con service in the time I had it and it always worked fine. I wouldn't bother if it still gets cold.

Glasgow OPC have refused to let me use my own oil for at least the last three years.

My 06 2.7 Boxster is due its service in May so I duly phoned up Edinburgh to get a costing as they did the 2 year one looked out the receipt and it cost a reasonable £379 ..are you sitting down ..glad I was[:D]

Major service £624.13
Brake fluid change £160 .58
Tyre sealant replacement £44.40
Spark plugs £167.77
Drive belt check £56,40
Aircon service £200.00

Total inc vat £1253.28

They will allow you to bring your own oil this saving £120 you then have to go to Costo and buy 8ltrs which I think is about £48
Porsche ownership is not cheap factor in £415 Road tax Insurance the only cheap thing £199 and before you turn a wheel you are £1900 .Think it is time to see how much the indy route will be

Guys thanks for your responses so far!

I'm certainly going to approach them and get confirmation to supply my own oil for my forthcoming major. On my last oil service @ Edinburgh I had no option but to pay £120+VAT for 6 litres of their liquid gold, otherwise they would have understandably refused to do the service. Previously when I owned a Boxster and lived in London, I always supplied my own Mobil 1 @ East London OPC and they were always fine about.

Brian,

A lot of those items are NOT part of the service schedule and so don't affect you getting the stamp, these are:
Brake Fluid
Spark Plugs
Sealant
Aircon Service

I just ordered the spark plugs to do my own car <£30 all in from Eurocarparts (same plugs as OPC use) - about 1 hour labour absolute max. Sealant is £9.99 a can in halfords, aircon service is a complete waste of time IMHO and kwik fit will do it for cheap. Brake fluid will be about £15 for a litre and anyone could do the change (nothing special about bleeding brakes on a Porsche).

You might think the plugs should be part of the service, but in their greed they removed them from the schedule to be a separate item so they could charge separately - but if you're smart it now means that you can tell them to not bother and they still have to stamp to say the full service was complete - I got my 4 yr service for £527 inc the oil supplied by OPC. I'd phone them and get them to do the absolute minimum necessary for the stamp and then get someone cheaper to do the "extras"....if my plug change goes well over the weekend I'll happily do yours for you brian.

Star Performance at Kirkcaldy did my air con service. Very good and only £60!

Jim Curley will sort you out and do a rolling road graph for engine output when you're there!

I have friends in the trade and the air con machine costs circa 2k to buy, materials circa £5 takes about 20 mins labour£50/£60 and tey are still doin ok £200 is to put it bluntly a rip off!
Apart from hooking it up the mecanic/ tec just stands back as the macine does it all
You pays your money and all that !
